Did you know that A Journal of Health Psychology review of the Longitudinal Study on Aging, which compiled data from more than 7,000 Americans ages 70 and older, found that people who volunteered frequently tended to live longer than those who didn’t?
Make new friends! Be a part of the zoo family. Volunteer Coordinator Ms. Toni Lopez who is the Vice Chair of CDEC is focusing this year on recruiting senior volunteers to be a part of the zoo family.
Volunteers 18 years and older not only get to help out at El Paso’s number one outdoor attraction but also can sign up to help people discover and learn to connect with and value the Chihuahuan Desert. The Zoo is looking for volunteers to lead tours of the Chihuahuan Desert Exhibit. To become a tour guide the first step you need to accomplish is to become a Zoo Volunteer assigned to the Education Team.
For more information contact Ms. Toni Lopez at lopezma1@elpasotexas.gov or call Tuesdays to Saturdays at 915-212-2877.
There are many ways to prepare yourself to become a tour leader. To help you get started you can read through some of the graphics at the Zoo here.
Enjoy the Zoo’s green spaces and water features, a wonderful oasis just waiting for you in the middle of a sometime very hot and dry desert. You will find no place that compare to the Zoo with many opportunities to enjoy El Paso’s most incredible quality of life experiences. Where else can you go in the city and see a pack of Mexican wolves, enjoy watching a herd of pronghorns, a rare and endangered jaguar and so many other species of wildlife.

If you are working on a career a zoo volunteer opportunity will help you enhance your communications skills while building up your resume.
Do you have a passion for wildlife and want to join others in helping to save endangered species from around the world? Do you like being around people who share your love for animals and nature, then this is a place for you!
